After Kamala Harris announced that she was running for president from Democratic party, Donald Trump’s campaign has faced several setbacks. In recent polls show Kamala has already surpassed Trump in popularity. She is also gain leading position in fundraising for election. Initially, Trump refused to participate in a debate with Kamala Harris. However, he has now agreed to a televised debate with kamala. On Friday, Donald Trump announced on his social media platform that he will participate in a debate with Kamala Harris on September 4th, which will be aired by Fox News.
A few hours before this announcement, Kamala secured her spot as the Democratic candidate for the upcoming presidential election upcoming in November 2024. She has already received more delegate votes than needed. Jaime Harrison (Chair of the Democratic National Committee) made the announcement on Friday.
CNN also reports that the Democratic Party started voting by email on Thursday to choose their upcoming presidential candidate. Representatives can vote until Monday evening. Kamala Harris already received more votes than required within just 36 hours.
Trump Agrees to Debate Kamala
Although Kamala’s nomination is confirmed through delegate votes, her official nomination will be finalized at the party’s national convention in Chicago at the end of this month. Kamala will formally accept the nomination next week.
In a social media post after securing her nomination, Kamala Harris said she feels honored to be the Democratic candidate and will officially accept the nomination next week.
While Donald Trump has agreed to the debate, Kamala’s did not shown any immidiate response yet, but it is expected that she will also agree to it.
Kamala’s fortunes changed on July 21 when 81 year old U.S president Joe Biden announced he would step down as the Democratic presidential candidate and support Kamala. Since then, Kamala has been campaigning as the first Black and Asian American woman running for president.
In a debate held by CNN in late June, Biden was clearly defeated by Trump. This led to increasing calls from Biden’s party, supporters, and donors for him to step down. Although initially reluctant, Biden eventually agreed to step down on July 21.
