In the upcoming U.S. presidential election, Democratic candidate Kamala Harris is much ahead of Republican candidate and former U.S. President Donald Trump in terms of popular support, according to a new Reuters/Ipsos poll.
This means the gap between the two parties is narrowing.
After President Joe Biden withdrew from the election race, Vice President Kamala Harris emerged as the leading candidate for the Democratic Party. Before Biden’s withdrawal, he was behind Trump in several opinion polls. However, Kamala Harris has now overtaken Trump. The poll results account for a 3.5% margin of error.
The latest poll was conducted over three days and it ended last Sunday. It shows Kamala Harris with 43% support from registered voters, while former President Trump has 42%. This is a 1 percentage point lead for Kamala Harris.
In a poll from the previous week, Kamala was also ahead, with 44% support compared to Trump’s 42%.

Due to age-related pressures, the 81-year-old Biden decided to withdraw from the presidential race. He endorsed his Vice President, Kamala Harris, before stepping down.
In the last 10 days, Kamala has strengthened her position as a Democratic candidate, benefiting from increased donations and support. Over the past month, she has started gaining more favor among voters.
The latest poll indicates that 46% of voters view Kamala positively, while 51% have a negative view of her. This is an improvement from a July 2 poll, where 40% of voters had a positive view and 57% had a negative view.
Trump’s popularity has seen only slight changes. According to the latest poll, 41% of registered voters like Trump, while 56% do not.
Voters tend to favor Trump’s plans on the economy, immigration, and crime, whereas they prefer Kamala’s plans on healthcare.
